Architectural Spaces - The Lloyds Building

The Lloyds Building in the City of London was designed by Richard Rogers, the building took over eight years to be constructed, this was from 1978 to 1986. Simular to the Pompidou Centre in Paris designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, the building is innovative in having all its services on the outside of the building such as the staircases, lifts, electrical power conduits and water pipes. This left a clean unclutted space on the inside. The 12 glass lifts were also the first of there kind in the United Kingdom. This building has a very big impact on the public and it stands out against other building in the City. This building transforms a boring block of offices into a space which is visually overwhelming.
